Logging off the blog for a while. The calf injury sustained at the striders 30k is much more serious than I originally thought. I have tried to run (once) and I made it 3 miles before searing pain in my right Achilles forced me to stop. It was a long hobble back.

I am considering taking the rest of the month off to let this nagging injury heal. It has plagued me in every race I have run since January and seriously limited my training. Good luck to all of you in your spring marathons.

Sorry to hear that because I really enjoyed running with you at the 30k. I hope you can resolve this soon.

That's tough news. Are you planning on seeing a physical therapist?

If it's any consolation, I had to take 5 months off running last year before I was ready to go again...but when I came back I was a lot faster than I was even before I got hurt because I improved my biomechanics and fixed my imbalances. Sometimes less is more, so think of this as a vital part of your long-term training plan.

Hope to see you back here soon!

Bob,

That is a bummer! I hope that you can recover quickly. Good luck!

Sorry to hear about your calf. If you are interested, do a search on either google or letsrun.com for the term "calf heart attack." Essentially it is a deep chronic tear of the calf muscle. The treatment is essentially very deep tissue massage therapy, or ART may be an option as well. I hope to see you healthy soon, you are an awesome talent.

Bob,

I saw one of your boys had a great race at BYU on Saturday. Luke Puskedra ran a 9:04.96 in the 3200 meters. If I am right that is a state record. Looks like you have yourself another ringer!

Bob, I missed you out there at Ogden. How is the calf doing?

Your photo on the XTerra trail series postcard/flyer is pretty sweet! Have you seen it?? Apparently the WRC has it under the glass in their counter.
